Bradley toilet partitions represent a versatile group of commercial bathroom hardware fixtures that can easily be adapted to the regulatory requirements for building ADA compliant restrooms. The partitions themselves require only basic modifications to accommodate the special needs features characteristic of these facilities. Specifically proportioned stalls can be built to ensure safe and comfortable accessibility. Mandatory safety equipment such as grab bars can easily be mounted to the partition sides. Important details such as ease of door manipulation and minimal toe clearance for disabled persons can also be readily configured.

The ability of a user to easily open and close the stall door is a top consideration in ADA compliant restrooms. Codes stipulate that partition doors be opened with no more than five pounds of force. Devices that are mounted to the surface door for the purpose of opening and closing it must be mounted no higher than 48 inches above the floor. Regulations stipulate that opening devices be easy to manipulate with one hand without the user having to grab the fixture tightly or twist his or her wrist in the process.

Grab bars that are mounted to the sides of Bradley toilet partitions are another key element in ADA compliant restroom design. Regulations dictate that grab bars feature a diameter of 1 and 1 quarter to 1 and 1 half inches. The centerline of the grab bar must be mounted between 33 inches to 36 inches above the finish floor. In order to provide maximum support, comfort, and safety to the user, every grab bar must feature a structural integrity capable of supporting more than 250 pounds per foot.

A grab bar measuring 40 inches in length and placed no more than 12 inches from the back wall must be mounted on the Bradley toilet partition located nearest the toilet. The second grab bar must measure a minimum of 36 inches and must be mounted along the back wall. Its ends must be no more than six inches away from the wall or partition on either side.

Bradley toilet partitions for ADA compliant restrooms must provide a toe clearance of nine inches above the finish floor. However, this requirement only applies to stalls whose depth is sixty inches or less. Larger stalls are exempt from this stipulation.

Now as it pertains to toilet compartments themselves, ADA compliant restroom guidelines call for an outswinging door that resides no more than 4 inches from the corner that is diagonal to the toilet. To meet this requirement, architects must offset the toilet on the back wall with its centerline located 18 inches from the nearest partition or side wall.

Bradley toilet partitions are available in many different material options. They can also be mounted in a variety of ways, which makes them ideal for the construction of walk-in stall compartments that offer ambulatory access. The many nuances of ADA compliant regulation codes are also readily addressed by the customization options that enable architects to match stall walls and doors to the exact specifications of code.
