Audio Books Online You Can Read While You Listen

By I Henman

Perhaps there is nothing so relaxing like reading your favorite title with a bottle of beer to give you company. Your mind cries out for revenge as you read Shakespeare’s Othello or is mellowed out as you turn the pages of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of the Grass. But alas, the murderous rat race and the bursting everyday schedule have permanently prevented such simple luxuries. You just do not have the time to read any more. ‘Is there any other alternative to reading a book’, you ask yourself. Well, why not someone else reading it for you? All you have to do is listen. Great, isn’t it? Audio books online are in these days.

Although audio books online have come to stay for quite sometime now, few people have come to grips with it, fewer still indulge in such simple opulence. Thousands of websites beckon you for free audio book online, comprising fiction, non-fiction, classics and more. Even if you are bound to a very strict schedule, there is nothing to prevent you from listening to an audio book online and enjoying every bit of it sans the hassles of going through it page by page.

As the literary works are downloaded to your computer, you may listen to their content at the privacy of your home without any hindrance. No need to visit the local library or browse the archives to find your favorite title. No late fees levied for any delay in returning the book.

But what happens if you are always on the move. Those who are traveling sales persons or departmental heads, perpetually on the road, visiting clients and distributors. For them the answer is simple. As these online audio books can be easily downloaded to the computer, you may burn them onto a CD, take them along and listen while you are driving. No problem at all. Your car CD player will then literally read out choice fragments of Vladimir Nobokov’s Lolita as you press the accelerator down to the floor of the vehicle.

Another great advantage that audio books online offer is that they are reusable. In fact, you could listen to them as many times as you prefer, alone or in company of others, in the privacy of your home or while traveling in your car, any place any time of the day or night. No wonder more and more people are opting for audio books online. Websites are vying with each other to get the lion’s share of the profit earned from the sale of audio books online.

In some cases, nominal yearly membership fees are also charged by some websites, depending on the type of audio books you need. You may be overwhelmed by the extent of the availability of audio books online and the variety that is available. All for the benefit of the reading (or should I say, ‘read-listening’) public. The day is not very when audio books online may enter the hall of fame for escalating the world literacy.

The United States media group Tribune Company has filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday as it struggled to sort out its US$13 billion debt. It is the second-largest newspaper publisher in the United States, responsible for the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, among others.

The firm has been hit hard by the industry-wide slump in newspaper advert revenues this year. Sam Zell, the billionaire who owns Tribune, took out large loans in order to buy the firm back in June of 2007.

The United States Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection law states that a company can continue trading whilst it sorts out its finances.

The United States government is reportedly close to an agreement for a US$15 billion bailout plan for the country’s three largest auto firms.

According to a draft obtained by the Associated Press, the deal would give loans to Detroit‘s struggling Big Three automobile manufacturers — Ford, General Motors, and Chrysler — but under the condition that the auto industry restructures itself to survive. Another condition is that the incumbent US President, George W. Bush, would appoint an overseer to supervise the effort.

Analysts suggest that the agreement could be signed into law by the end of this week.

What Makes A Bachelorette Party Dc Even Better?}

Submitted by: Saied Luliah

A wedding is coming up. That means its an exciting time for the bride and grooms to be. For the bride to be, a bachelorette party may very well be on the horizon. When her friends are putting together the best Washington DC Bachelor Party they can, they should consider transportation.

Its the Ride to the Event that Makes a World of Difference:

Many people incorrectly assume that its the venue itself and maybe even the entertainment thats whats most important to a bachelorette or bachelor party. What sets everything in motion and can trigger the best time ever is how they guest of honor arrives at that destination.

Imagine Cruising Around in a Party Bus:

It doesnt necessarily have to be a party bus, but even a stretch limousine or Hummer limo could be a great idea. Just imagine cruising around in a Bachelorette Limo Party Bus or Hummer limo. All of those women can be celebrating these upcoming nuptials, laughing and having a great time.

They Can even Have their own Personal Entertainment on Board:

With a privacy divider in the limo or a true, genuine party bus, the bachelorette and her friends can have their own personal and private entertainment on board. Whatever that entertainment happens to be, its all up to them. As long as its legal, it should be no problem for a high quality company.

So How do you find the right Transportation Company?

Look for one that has been around for a long time. A couple of decades, at least, would be a great place to start. Also make sure they will put in writing that you will get the exact vehicle you expect.

Its far too easy to set up a website and make it look as though they have nothing but luxurious limos, but when an old, worn-out limousine arrives that is dirty, has ripped seats, and other issues, you may be surprised, but you could also be out of luck because the fine print on the contract you signed could stipulate something to it the effect of, actual vehicle may not be as represented online.

A company that is willing to put the bachelorette as their top priority and has a great safety record is one that will certainly help create a Washington DC Bachelorette Party that is worth remembering.

Israeli group announces anti-semitic cartoons contest

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

In response to the Iranian newspaper Hamshari’s announcement of an anti-semitic cartoon contest inspired by the Jyllands Posten Muhammad cartoons controversy, an Israeli group announced its own anti-semitic cartoon contest yesterday, open to Jewish cartoonists only.

From their February 13 release:

Amitai Sandy (29), graphic artist and publisher of Dimona Comix Publishing, from Tel-Aviv, Israel, has followed the unfolding of the “Muhammad cartoon-gate” events in amazement, until finally he came up with the right answer to all this insanity – and so he announced today the launch of a new anti-Semitic cartoons contest – this time drawn by Jews themselves!
Mr. Sandy said, “We’ll show the world we can do the best, sharpest, most offensive Jew hating cartoons ever published!” :said Sandy “No Iranian will beat us on our home turf!”

Already organizers have received mixed responses to their contest and have published a number of them, including the following:

“This is a fantastic idea: A people or religion that can laugh at itself is a confident, strong and self secure. It can show the Islamic world that humor and self deprecation is a healthy psychological exercise. The one who can face his demons can overcome his weaknesses”
Ash, NJ
“I know that unemployment is low in Israel, but does not justify your new venture. This will be my last time visiting your site, and assure you, that this business will not succeed.
the next time you start a new venture, please try to focus on what good will your product deliver to anyone. in your case it only makes me sad to see Israelis like you turn against an entire nation to make an extra buck. You are a LOOSER!”

Not hesitating to set an example, the group has adopted three logos showing three anti-semitic figures. They set a deadline of March 5, 2006 but due to an unexpectedly large response are considering extending it.

Amitai Sandy was interviewed on 16 February 2006 by the National Public Radio program Fresh Air.

Wesley So wins TATA Steel Chess

Wednesday, February 1, 2017

On Sunday, Filipino-US chess grandmaster Wesley So won this year’s Tata Steel Chess Tournament, held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands, securing 9.0 points out of thirteen. Following closely in second place was current World Champion Magnus Carlsen with 8.0 points.

Wesley So won five games and drew the remaining eight. A player gets a point for each win, half a point for a draw and no points for a loss. He is currently on a 56 lossless game streak.

In the final round, Wesley So was paired against Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi. Wesley So captured a central pawn which was expected to be recaptured to equalise material but wasn’t. Soon, his opponent unexpectedly castled offering a pawn sacrifice which was accepted. Despite being ahead in material his opponent threatened to capture his queen. However, he was able to defend using his extra central pawn and prevent counter-play forcing the Russian to resign.

He won last year’s Grand Chess Tour by winning the Sinquefield Cup and London Chess Classic and coming second in the Leuven Grand Chess Tour.

Magnus Carlsen won four, tied eight and lost a game against Richárd Rapport. In the last round he faced his rival and contender for the World Chess Championship of the last year, Russian Sergey Karjakin. In the game, Karjakin provoked Carlsen to sacrifice his knight on which grandmaster Fabiano Caruana tweeted, “Karjakin must be in a very charitable mood”. He quickly sacrificed his knight pinning Karjakin’s knight to his queen. Despite being a piece down he gained an advantageous position. Karjakin defended his position extremely well, as grandmaster Alejandro Ramírez said, “He can commit the most despicable errors and then show world-class toughness from the next second!”. The defence worked and a draw was agreed upon.

Also known as the “Wimbledon of Chess”, the Tata Steel Chess tournament attracts top chess players every year. The tournament has two professional groups, Masters and Challengers, and an amateur group. It is organised in a round-robin format where each player plays a game against all other players. The tournament is scheduled to run its 80th edition next year in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.

Berlusconi to remain in hospital after assault

Monday, December 14, 2009

The Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, is to remain in the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, following yesterday’s assault which left him with facial damage, two broken teeth, a broken nose and cuts to his lips. The assault on the 73-year-old media mogul came at the end of a political rally where Prime Minister Berlusconi had addressed the assembled crowd.

Berlusconi will now stay in hospital until at least Tuesday, and according to a bulletin released to Italian Media, he is able to eat, but only with difficulty.

He was approached and hit in the face by 42-year-old Massimo Tartaglia, who was carrying a replica of Milan’s Duomo Cathedral at the time, made out of some form of heavy material according to eyewitnesses. Tartaglia is now in police custody, and has been charged with aggravated assault.

The leader of the Northern League, an Italian Far-Right organisation, Umberto Bossi, said what had happened was an “act of terrorism” and described the attack as a “worrying sign”.

In a statement released to the media, Berlusconi’s spokesman, Paolo Bonaiuti, said that “we try to keep him at rest. He would like to re-immerse himself into his frantic activity, but doctors say caution is necessary.”
